I have been using an earlier version of Firefox. I somehow have lost the ability to use that version. Therefore I was trying to download the newer Firefox 3.6, however when I attempted to download the new version is says that the mounting failed.

If I must use the earlier version where wou;d I be able to download the Firefox 2.0 or whatever?

You will have to either use the Firefox 2.x version which is insecure (currently unsupported) or upgrade the Mac OSX.
