i open several windows, but would like to merge them into a single window with multiple tabs. not really a problem; more a dilemma!

You can move a tab from one window to another by clicking on it and dragging.

If you can't see the tab bar (because you have only one tab open), then open the "Tabs" section of the Firefox preferences and select "Always show the tab bar."
