The latest FireFox 3.6 has been installed automatically and I no longer have the tool bar that contained my "Bookmark" "Tools" "Help""History"Etc. Can I restore F.F. to my earlier version where it appears? or have I lost all my bookmarks? or is the bar hidden? If so how do I retrieve it?I have tried right clicking the top bar lines to no avail

Firefox 3.6+ versions have a feature to allow the user to hide the Menu bar.

Hit the Alt key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark.
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.
