I am trying to install Adobe Flash Player, followed instructions for Firefox install, got error message that I need additional plugin.

I am trying to install Adobe Flash Player 10.1, followed instructions for Firefox installation, I got the error message: "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page." "Install Missing Plugins" 

When I click on "install missing plugin", I received:
"No suitable plugins were found"
"Unknown Plugin (application/getplusplusadove16291) Manual Install"

I clicked on "manual install" and got:

"You have chosen to open gp.xpi which is a XPInstall Install from Http://platformdl.adobe.com

What should Firfox doe with this file? open with (Browse) Save File

I saved the file but when I click on it I get "Adobe Reader could not open “gp.xpi” because it is not a supported file type or is damaged"

Again, all I'm trying to do is download the updated Adobe Flash Player, which I was prompted to do when I downloaded the updated Firefox 3.6.10

An alternative method to install Adobe flash is to use the manual installers. For details see the Adobe troubleshooting guide - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html#main_ManualInstaller

You do not need the Adobe Download Manager (Getplus) extension to update or install software from Adobe.

Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks.

  1. Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45
  2. Java Plug-in 1.6.0_03 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper)

Update the Java plugin to the latest version.

I had the same problem trying to install Adobe Reader X. When I looked at my plugin list (Tools->Add-ons...click on Plugins tab) there was an older version of GetPlusPlus. I disabled it and then I was able to install Adobe Reader with no trouble.

I've had a great deal of trouble updating Adobe products from Firefox. I've tried the various steps of manually installing plug-ins, uninstalling plug-ins, and about everything else I could think of. I've found a solution that works for me. I change the "rendering engine" of the web page I'm on (in this case Adobe) to Internet Explorer. I hate IE, but have found sometimes it's the only way to get things like downloads to work. The way to change the rendering engine is to get the add-on IE Tab 2 (FF 3.6+). Then all you have to do is put your cursor on the Firefox logo at the bottom right of your screen and click on it. After you have done the download, you just switch it back. Very easy fix.
