Can one permanently keep a navigation tab open?

When one opens a new navigation tab, it substitutes the currently open one. One can avoid this several ways. I would prefer the ability to prevent an open tab to be replaced by a new one

There are quite a few tabbed browsing add-ons that have options to make sites that are opened from bookmarks/history/location bar/search bar, open in new tabs. Some examples are:
