I can no longer use gmail with Firefox since it updated today.
This morning, Firefox had updates for version 3.6.6 and I did this and now gmail is not working. The page loads and I can see my mail, but I cannot open any of the messages or compose a message and I cannot even see the people on the chat feature (I think this feature didn't even load). Since I can use gmail fine on internet explorer and have checked with other people who say there is nothing wrong with gmail, I am assuming it is a problem with the updates to firefox. My yahoo account works in firefox, so I will give you that email to reply to me.

I am experiencing the same problem with my gmail accounts as well. I also do not think it is the gmail site, since I can access my accounts on my iPhone and on my wife's computer (she currently is using Firefox 3.5.5 as her browser).
What the heck is going on? I can access it in i.e. or in the HTML version, but nothing else will work.
My problem also started last night. FF 3.6.6. I disabled all add ons, cleared cache and cookies, and gmail just hands on loading and hogs all the system resources.
Same problem since updating to 3.6.6
Gmail works fine in IE
exact same problem here
I went to Tools-->Clear recent history, and cleared everything except site preferences. gmail works fine now.
I have same issue gmail just goes in to load cycle when you try to open an email. I tried clearing history had no affect. I wish Firefox would stop with the updates seems like every other day there is something that needs updating. unfortunately I have to use it for a VPN connection to work :(
Inbox hangs, cannot open any mail. This is DEFINITELY a FIREFOX 3.6.6 PROBLEM!!!!! I ALSO read on a forum a few days ago that FIREFOX 3.6.6. is NOT entirely SECURE...and 2 days later I got a virus which destroyed my host processing!!!! FIREFOX 3.6.6. SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same problem here.
I have the same problem. When is someone going to give an answer that enables me to correct it?
Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".
The problem still exists on my computer at home. I was able to open gmail here at work. I would caution though about spreading rumors of the browser not being secure and creating a negative security impact.
Until something is confirmed and I cannot find any confirmation on any security site we should resist claiming that a product is unsecured. It certainly sucks about gmail but unwarranted virus scares can do as much damage as a virus.
I'm running with Michael's solution. Going to revert.
Have to admit I didn't expect this from the Moz.
I reverted to 2.5.10 and rebooted... still have the same problem, as strange as that is.
This worked for me. Reverting back...
John, you're right. Funny too now I cannot find where I had read that. I installed Firefox 3.6.6 a week ago and its been a week of problem after problem...then to find I return to my computer and the screen says "install operating system" ..... YIKES! :O
Firefox may be secure, but 3.6.6 is not working right. They were too eager to release it which is why we are in this situation.
Apologies for the mispost--I downgraded to 3.5.10 (not 2.5.10). But the issue remained.
I also uninstalled a ton of Adobe stuff and Silverlight. Cleared cache, rebooted, etc.
Firefox was quite stable before the upgrade to 3.6.6.
After upgrading to 3.6.6, gmail no longer works and actually locks the browser. I see the mailbox, but when I click on a message, Firefox gets almost fully locked. I can still operate several controls, but no page will load. If I exit the browser, Firefox will remain in the process list in Windos Task Manager. I have to go there and kill it. I'm running Firefox in Windows XP. GMail works fine in Internet Explorer, though that is of little importance. I do not expect any web page to crash any browser, and that's what's happening now with Firefox 3.6.6.
i have the same problem. i few things i notice. it doesnt load the whole page. the bottom footer is there. also the chat doesnt load. the strange thing is its only happening for one gmail account. i logged in under a 2nd one and it works fine. i log in using chome and it works fine. i just dont get it.
using the link from chome i am able to get it to switch to basic html and it works fine. as soon as i switch back to standard it no longer loads.
Running FF 3.6.6 and finding that opening the inbox of gmail is impossible; it instantly opens my calendar after briefly showing the inbox. I can browse it all successfully on Chrome.
I have the exact same issue - I run 64 bit version.
Today I disabled all add-ons for 3.5.10, rebooted in safe mode and ran a Spybot and AVG scan, and still I had the problem with Gmail. The strange thing is that it continues in a lower version.
It could be a matter of clearing out the personal settings when uninstalling FF 3.6.6. I would ask that someone with more time try this.
I have removed FF from this machine, and I'm taking the opportunity to test Chrome.
