Stop Google from using Firefox Geolocation Feature
Not being paranoid, but how do I get google from ceasing to use the Firefox Geolocation Feature?? All it does is add time to loading web sites, not to mention I don't particularly like anybody tracking my visitation. (ironic I use gmail, isn't it?)
== happens all the damn time
Chosen solution
Google claim that they only do it because Firefox asks. They say http://www.google.com/intl/en/privacy-lsf.html "The Firefox Geolocation Feature will make requests to Google only if you tell the feature to do so. For information about your choices, please consult the Firefox privacy policy. "
As far as I can see the Firefox privacy options (tools/options/privacy) don't let you stop Firefox revealling your location. Does anyone know how to do this?

Which version of Firefox - the 2.0.0.20 you posted here with?
sorry - thought I included that..
Geolocation is a feature in Firefox 3.5+ versions, not in 2.0.0.20. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/geolocation/
You probably mean that Google does a reverse DNS lookup of your IP to to determine your current location and to serve you content in the local language. See http://whatismyipaddress.com

Type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter. If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
Pref name = geo.enabled - double-click that preference to toggle it to false.
Then restart Firefox.
thanks, but I can't find a prefix called geo.enabled on the about.config page. It doesn't seem to be listed as a preference on http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Preferences either
Any more suggestions?
Anne, That is an old page, it hasn't been updated since the days of the Firefox 1.5 versions: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Preferences In the footer of that web page. This page was last modified 02:31, 5 February 2006.
What version of Firefox are you using? Only Firefox 3.5 and newer versions have that preference for Geolocation.

still puzzled about where/how I find the preference for geo-enabled ....
disable is not the only solution:

add some noise instead
Dear Mee...
I'm still trying to get a solution about ver 2.0! This and other threads offer absolutely no help whatsoever.
Is there no solution for the above ver? I'm still stuck with it 'till I can afford a newer mac.

That is about the page source that has been modified in 2006. The content of such Category index pages is generated automatically and has nothing to do with that date. If a preference is not listed on those pages then that means that no one has created a page describing that preference.
Breakpad didn't even exist back then: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Breakpad.reportURL
You always need to confirm permission via an info bar at the top before Firefox will use Geolocation and send data to a server.
