just lately the google I feel lucky from the url bar hasn't been working, it's not a case of being taken to a different search engine, I'm being taken to my isp's failed to find what I was looking for page. about:config is setup correctly.

You may have an ISP that automatically redirects you to that search page if a DNS look up fails. In such cases you need to contact your ISP and ask for a DNS server IP to opt-out of that feature.
