The lack of support for saving pages in MHTML format is a real drawback for Firefox.

This is a great shame, given all its other advantages—and especially its independence from Big Tech.

Can we hope for native support for this feature in the browser soon ?

And if not, what is holding it back ?

The questions are answered in bugzilla.mozilla.org/40873 — along with any recent updates (IIUC pending security issues for reading back the archive).
