cannot configure yahoo mail account in thunderbird. cannot find xdg-open although installed on Ubuntu

I cannot set up my yahoo mail account in thunderbird. first, yahoo does not let me log in using firefox (all extensions off). I set chrome to my default browser. chrome at least allows me to log into my yahoo account directly. First part of set up is okay: server setings, imap etc. then thunderbird wants to connect to yahoo.com. Using chrome I can log in. It then tries to open some file and returns an error message, "no app found." I attach some screen shots.

I am using Ubuntu 24.04LTS with all current updates. xdg-com is installed. the version is 1.1.3. Thunderbird version is current: 153.0 (64-bit).

What is the problem?

For oauth in 153: 1. In Thunderbird > Settings > Config Editor make mailnews.oauth.usePrivateBrowser=true, mailnews.oauth.useSchemeRedirect=false 2. Restart Thunderbird 3. Login

A change will be coming to resolve this issue.
