Emails I've approved of and added to the address book are still showing up in the spam folder; to include marking them not spam or running the Spam Controls. Is there another way for this annoying behavior to stop?

Placing email addresses in the addressbook does not bypass spam checking. This article may be helpful: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-junk-spam-messages Also, there is no white list or black list. If there are specific email addresses that continually are selected as spam, I suggest creating a filter.
