Spurious failure of SMTP Authentification

Since last night, I sometimes get failure to connect to SMTP Server. This happens not always, but frequently. I'm using 0AUTH 2.0.

It only happens when I try to send s.th. Receiving is ok.

Did anyone else experience this and is there a remedy?

if you're sending on smtp.office365.com, you will see the error in the first picture when the authentication method is 'normal password' instead of the correct OAuth2.
