Email Send fails about 70% of time
I've used Thunderbird for over a decade with the same email address and log in info. My email address is [edited]@pacbell.net. I receive email regularly, but starting about 3 weeks ago, outgoing email actually gets sent only about 30% of the time I hit the send button, and the rest of the time I get the following message:
"Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) outbound.att.net failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.
After I try several more times, I can usually get the email to go through.
What can be done to fix this?

What is your anti-virus software?
Norton 360. Which has not changed recently.

Try to start Windows 10 in safe mode with networking enabled.
Does the problem go away?
Windows safe mode disables anti-virus software. This is a troubleshooting step, not a solution.
I have Windows 11 (not 10) Does Windows 11 have a safe mode, and if so, will it work for this, and do I access it the same as your instructions for Windows 10?
You didn't mention what OS you're using in your initial post. So I had to guess.

I started Windows 11 in Safe mode (after having to find and enter a 48 didget Bitlocker Code) and all 5 emails sent (including the forwarding of messages that previously produced the error code) went out without delay or an error. I rebooted out of safe mode with the same results. I'm hoping this has fixed it. Thank you for your help.

And if not, your AV software is involved.
