I backed up Thunderbird and reloaded it after I had been hacked in gmail, but now I have 2 profiles accessing the same gmail. One shows the gmail address and the other is my old "local" profile. The old one has my typical 16000 emails, while the new one shows 30,000 emails with no doubles. Can I delete the new one?

Please provide more details. Are these two profiles, or two accounts? If two profiles, that would mean you can access only one account at a time and must close and restart thunderbird with the other profile to see the other account. True? Are these both IMAP, POP, or a mix? More info is always welcome. thank you

The old profile is shown under Local folders. The new one is its own folder equivalent to the Local, showing as my gmail address. They both access the same gmail address. thanks!

Without seeing the messages, if the account with 30,000 is IMAP, I presume it has all the messages. The one in local folders is probably just static messages. you can verify that by highlight the folders there and rightclicking and viewing properties. So, lacking other info, the local folders seems unnecessary. I suggest COPYing the local folders content elsewhere when thunderbird isn't running and then delete in thunderbird and check status

So I finally put a pic here of what things look like. You see the email on top with the 30000 inbox. What my TB looked like for years was the bottom portion from Local Folders down. a) below is the properties location of the first and b) is location of the inbox under Local.

I got a bad bug a while ago and turned off all settings I could find in TB so as not to pass anything more to friends (which already happened somewhat). After clearing desktop well I went to turn on settings in TB again, not really knowing what I was doing. All of a sudden I had the top part showing with the gmail, inbox, trash, spam, down to Local. Like I said, I always showed about 16000 emails in TB for long time before the changes.

Thanks for your time and input!

Forgot to mention that new emails from gmail are loading into the top profile but not the bottom one.
