How do I turn off spellcheck?
I now have an intrusive spellcheck (140.3.0esr (64-bit)). My e-mails are littered with underlining and pop-ups.
The "suggestions" are sometimes completely farcical - words correctly spelled but flagged, and some that appear to be subject to grammar checking instead.
I can find no way of turning this off. Surely it should be optional?
I am a native English speaker with several English exam passes. I neither need nor want Thunderbird's "assistance". For the same reason I do not use others' offerings such as Microsoft, Google etc.

click settings>composition and turn it off. If you are also seeing grammar suggestions, those may be coming from an addon or other software running on your computer.
Exactly where do I turn it off??
puzzling. click 'new message' and click options from menu bar and see if it is ticked there. if menu bar isn't visible, click the alt key. If it's turned off there too, my suspicion is that another product is doing this. Some grammar products that work with browser also involve themselves with email. And do check your addons.
1 Write new message 2 Options>Check spelling - pop-up asking for word to be input to check
Options>Spell Check As You Type - tickable for On or Off. Always Off
3 Writing this message - Spellcheck is working here as well!! "new" and "message" underlined
Found it. GRAMMARLY!! I have no idea when it installed itself on my PC. It is no longer.
