It takes almost a minute for my home page to come on after I click on My Firefox icon. That has only started happening in the last week or so. But . . . also . . . when I sign into my email account with my ID and complete password, even though I check the "stay signed in" box, that does not happen. I need to fully sign in each time, and that, too, time-wise is somehow related to the delay in getting my home page up. On several occasions I have gotten a message that Firefox is not responding. Thanks for any help you can give. I have Windows 11.

Hello,

Since this just started happening in the past week, it may be related to your profile data, cache/cookies, or an add-on. So maybe check on those and let me know if it fixed!

Thanks for your reply, John. At the behest of my email provider (since I've got problems with that too, in the last week or so), I earlier went into my Firefox history and deleted everything from 12:00 am, but that has not helped. Is that what you are suggesting? How should I go about checking/updating my profile data, or if some kind of add-on is causing problems? The meat of my message to them is included here, below the dashed line. Maybe that'll help.

Each time I try to retrieve my emails, I need to enter my email address, and full password. I have always checked the "stay signed in" box, but that doesn't help (though it used to).

Thanks for the extra details. Since clearing history didn’t help, it’s worth checking whether the issue is with your Firefox profile or an add-on. Here are a few steps you can try:

Check in Troubleshoot Mode

Click the menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode > Restart.

This disables add-ons and custom settings temporarily.

Try signing in to your email and see if “Stay signed in” works.

If it does, one of your add-ons or settings is interfering.

Thanks again for your efforts, John. The troubleshooting mode mentioned above did nothing . . . all the problems remain. If you have any other ideas, I'd be happy to try them out. FYI - I do have a situation where I sometimes get a "404 Error message -file not found" when I click on icons that I have used (for direct access) to websites for ages. It all began when the delay in getting my home page up appeared following clicking on the Firefox icon. There might be something wrong with my tool bar, since some of the websites I try to go to no longer recognize me (ask for passwords, verification IDS, and so on). Could that be at least part of the problem?

I have had no issues with my Firefox ever since I moved its profile onto an external drive with ample space. Might your problem be related to having too little space on your disk partition to allow growth of the profile?

Apps start failing to respond or start taking excessive time to load when squeezed for space to work in. Being on an external drive also allows me to do do a fresh install of Firefox, then I can reconnect my profile to the new installation.

For Linux_Mint_ Firefox: Thanks for your reply. I have many, many gigs remaining on my hard drive, so I don't think that's part of the problem, though maybe I don't fully understand your reply. Please get back to me if that's the case.
