My bookmarks are all gone after power cycling my computer

I power cycled my computer in order to install some Windows updates, and when I opened up Firefox again, I had precisely zero bookmarks.

I found this folder, which is supposed to contain my automatic backups: https://i.postimg.cc/bwrWBswd/A.png

But I can't figure out how to use those files to restore my bookmarks.

When I click on Manage Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Restore > Choose File, nothing happens. No other option seems viable.

I had an ASSLOAD of bookmarks on this browser, so I need to recover them because there's just no way I'll be able to remember them all manually and add them all back one at a time!

What do I do?

Hi

I think we might be able to help you to not only recover your bookmarks, but everything you had in Firefox. Read the guide below really carefully - happy to help with any questions before you do anything.

  • In Firefox (that does not have your data), enter this in the address bar:

about:support

  • Select the button next to "Profile Directory" labelled "Open Directory". A file manager window should open.
  • Close Firefox (very important this is completely closed)
  • In the file manager window, go up a couple of levels so you can see the contents of your profile folder
  • In a separate file manager window, go to the same level up in the image you attached (thank you!) of your old profile.
  • Delete the contents of the (empty) profile in Firefox.
  • Copy across the contents of your old saved profile.
  • Open Firefox

You should find you have everything (bookmarks, passwords, add-ons, browsing history) back.

I hope that this helps.

This doesn't help.

Ok, I did that, and now I see this: https://i.postimg.cc/rw8d52g8/A.png

"Select the button next to "Profile Directory" labelled "Open Directory". A file manager window should open."

There's no such place. I even did a CTRL+F search for the word "directory" and got no matches.

Ok, nevermind, I ended the Firefox task in the task manager and re-launched it, and the bookmarks came back.

I am using Linux where it is "Open Directory", from your screenshot the equivalent is "Open Folder".

Very glad to hear your bookmarks have come back.
