Every email is suddenly only displaying in html code

Since midday today all my emails have only be displaying as html code. Nothing in the subject or correspondant boxes just the time received. When you click on one it's just a page of html code. I can see in the body that they are from sites that I am subscribed to; BBC news, Netflix, Amazon receipts etc so not malicious but useless to me and I'm expecting an important one from an electrician tomorrow and I need it to print. I haven't changed any settings, any suggestions?

This person on another post solved this. It's Bitdefender. I followed their instructions and turned off encrypted web scan and my email is back.

It is Bitdefender!! I have had exactly the same problem from 11th August - just with two BT POP accounts - Gmail IMAP is fine. Sending from POP to IMAP is fine - IMAP to POP corrupted. Windows 11 +Bitdefender Internet Security +Thunderbird 128.13.0esr (have not updated for a while!!). Removed Bitdefender completely (incl. Registry entry) and activated Windows Security - all OK (sigh of relief!!). Re- installed Bitdefender and problem back again. Progressively disabled Bitdefender email protection, antispam, vulnerability, advanced threat - all no change. Disabled all on-line threat and OK. Re-enabled email (incoming) antispam, vulnerability, advanced threat - still OK. Re-enabled all on-line threat - problem back again. Progressively disabled Online threat option - with Encrypted web scan off - OK. All Online threat options on except encrypted - still OK. Encrypted back on - problem back again - Encrypted off - OK!!

they are several people with the same issue. I am hoping Mozilla will say something as it seems to be a thunderbird issue rather than anything else.

Only a pop account is affected? Starting immediately upon updating to version 141.0 or 140.1.1esr?

What AV software and extensions are being used?

Wayne. I don't know what version of thunderbird I'm running. It doesn't seem to be obvious. I wasn't aware of any update. It just started doing this after lunch yesterday it was working normally before lunch I didn't restart the PC. I just left things running, went for an hour and when I came back to my desk and checked my email it was like this.

As far as I know I haven't had any updates of any software recently.

My AV is Bitdefender Total Security build 27.0.53.265 as far as I know that hasn't updated recently either.

It's a windows 10 machine but it's not that old.

So apparently I am on Thunderbird version 140.1.1esr (64-bit) and I have two extensions running; Bitdefender toolbar 1.0.0.3 also an extension called ImportExportTools NG 14.1.10

Problem went away when I temporarily uninstalled BD, came back when I reinstalled it, I am also running 27.0.53.265 of BD.
