Sending email works on one device, but not another with identical settings
I normally run Tbird on my LMDE desktop pc and have for years. I have a laptop running the same O/S. Both LMDE systems are up to date. The PC Tbird is version 128.9.0esr 64 bit and the laptop version is 137.0.2 . There is no option to update Tbird in the older version when I open ABOUT. There IS that option in the laptop version (newer). That's one issue. The other is, the older version of Tbird will receive email and the laptop (newer) version will not. I have visually verified both are set up the same way. What am I doing wrong and how do I update the older version with no update option in the ABOUT box short of completely reinstalling Tbird (which I REALLY do not want to do)?

Version 128 is the ESR version that is updated once a year, while 137 is the new 'release' version updated at least monthly, like Firefox. You can update 128 to 137 by manually downloading the 137 installer from thunderbird.net, at least with Windows. The newer version should read the existing profile without issue. On Linux, updating is usually done through the distro's update mechanism. I don't think there's any great advantage to having both on 137, and there might be some advantages as 128 is possibly more stable.
As to why the laptop with 137 won't download, I can think of an example such as AT&T accounts that require a different secure mail key for each computer, even for the same account. It might help if you post any error messages.
