Firefox On PC Is Pulling Up Old Extinct Email Account And Fails Log-In To Server

Not having used the desktop Thunderbird in a while I went through and updated passwords when prompted while trying to access emails and it downloads ok but will not send. I get an error message that states log-in to server failed but it's substituting/listing a very old email account/address that is not even list in my current account list.

I followed another thread and searched for prefs.js files and there is only one. Should I delete that or is it even the issue?

Go to outgoing server SMTP in account settings and correct your default account.

Thunderbird retrieves the email to read locally and your real email is online and if they changed the setting you will have to change Thunderbird settings to connect. You need to contact your email provider about login issues.

The problem appears to be in Thunderbird and the issue is only in sending. Thunderbird is pulling up old retired account information to try to log in to the ISP server when using the current email account which has been current for many years. The report back is "Login to server smtp.comcast.net with username xxxxxxx@comcast.net failed." The actural message has the old account name, not xxxxxxx which I substituted.

I will add that Thunderbird on my laptop properly accesses all the same email accounts both sending and receiving so it's something in the Thunderbird files on this pc.
