I have suddenly lost emails from 1 December to 12 February and many of my folders are now empty. I backup my computer nightly so I am able to go back up to six months ago. I have tried exchanging the profile folder in Appddata > Roaming and Local but when I start Thunderbird it looks like a clean install with nothing.

Is there anything else I need to bring back from my backups other than the profiles folder?

If Thunderbird is using the wrong profile for some reason, you have to make sure first Thunderbird uses the right one, as described here:

Many thanks for your help. I thought I had done that previously but obviously not. I went back a week and exchanged the profiles. Lost a few downloaded emails but I still have them on the server
