As of yesterday afternoon 1/8/2025 Thunderbird crashes every time it opens. I tried troubleshooting mode, but it still crashes.

These are the last five crash reports I submitted:

Please contact me at my alternate email account: tvcrider@gmail.com I suspect that I will not received notices when someone answers this thread. I pretty sure my account is tied to my Thundebird email. Thank you, Joe G

Chosen solution

The cause is likely Bitdefender. Use the instructions for BD at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues

I came across your suggestion after I resolved my issue. After a lot of frustration I simplying downloaded and installed the latest version of Thunderbird, which to my pleasant surprise worked.

I'm now trying to figure out how to add an exception to BD for Thunderbird.

Should be straightforward. The wiki instructions are not accurate?

The instruction were just fine and the installation went smoothly. The problem was what I took for granted. Since Thunderbird has always auto-updated on my PC I took it for granted that I was running the latest version.
