My Thunderbird installation has started hanging (unresponsive) more than 50% of the time that I waken my computer from sleep on Windows 10. It's been going on for over a month; I am currently running 128.5.2 esr. Never had this problem in the past - I've been a Thunderbird user for years across multiple devices (Windows, MacOS, iPhone, iPad).

What steps or information should I be taking to either resolve this issue, or collecting to help understand what's going on?

The email accounts I setup in Thunderbird with POP3 is not downloading since yesterday. I see the email in browser webmail. This is happening with two email servers that I use. I don't know how to diagnose where the problem may be coming from.

This started to happen when, with the few IMAP accounts, I was getting error: "Add Security Exception: You are about to override how Thunderbird identifies this site" See Img1. I clicked on Confirm Security Exception and those accounts seem to be OK

In addition when I try to send email I received a similar error. I first Canceled instead of confirming and received a "Send Message Error, Peer's Certificate issuer is not recognized. See Img2. I tried sending a second time and clicked on Confirm Security Exception which did clear up and I am able to send email.

Any idea what the problem is with POP3 or where I can start to look?

TIA

I'm running Thunderbird 128.5.1esr (64-bit) on Windows 10.

After it has been running for some time (usually half an hour), Thunderbird starts freezing up. It seems to be stuck at getting new messages from the server.

I can't close the window when writing a new message, I can't read e-mails and even closing Thunderbird doesn't work. I have to maually end the process in the task manager. CPU load and RAM are not affecter and all other programs on the computer work fine.

If I run Thunderbird in troubleshoot mode, these issues are not present. I have no active extensions (just one disabled), I'm using the default theme.

Any ideas what could be causing these issues or how to troubleshoot this?

CardDav is supported by TB now. I want to go away from the CardBook extension to native TB-CardDav. But: From 3 selected cardDAV-Addressbooks, only two synced and showed all contacts (150 and 700). The third (with 1300 contacts) will not show any contacts in TB. The address book is there, and contains the contacts. The address book did sync prior to the TB128-update with the CardBook TB-extension and does synch with other cardDAV apps like Davx5 on Android. Are there any limits for number of address books or number of contacts per address books in TB? Any other thoughts?

I have two CalDAV calendars on my Synology Drive. Whenever the Synology drive is doing other tasks and Thunderbird is symultaneously trying to update the calendars, the following will consistently occur:

1) A small error next to the calendar will appear stating the calendar is momentarily unavailable. 2) If the Synology continues to be busy, the calendar will automatically disable and a button will appear next to the calendar to enable it. All appointments and tasks are removed from the calendar and task windows/tabs.

If step 2 occurs, the calendar will not re-enable automatically. It will remain disabled until the user manually re-enables it. This risks tasks and appointments being missed.

I regard this as a bug. A serious one. Is there a solution that I have not yet found despite looking everywhere?

Until two days ago TB downloaded and sent emails quickly. Now downloading is delayed. The subject shows up but when you click it shows nothing until it finishes downloading. Similar delay with sending. When I send it takes about 30-45 seconds to complete the sending of an email. I have not made any adjustments to the settings.

How can I resolve this? Thank you

I'm using Thunderbird version: 128.5.1esr, Build ID: 20241202160748, under Linux Mint 22. My mail host is Pair Networks, and I collect my e-mail via POP3.

The problem I'm seeing is that most of the attempts which Thunderbird should be making to collect mail are apparently not happening. I'm using the activity manager in Thunderbird to tell me when connection attempts occur.

Firstly, the 'get messages' option, whether via the speed button OR the menus OR the hotkey combination, has no apparent effect.

Secondly, the setting to check for new messages at startup was apparently disregarded.

Thirdly, I decreased the interval for checking for new e-mails down to one minute. Again, the activity manager page remained blank. The check was either not happening, or wasn't being recorded.

What DID happen is Thunderbird appeared to be doing a timed check for new e-mails every 4-5 minutes. So, I called the tech support at my mailhost and asked them to check their logs. They confirmed that they were only seeing attempts to connect every four or five minutes. I called the tech support at my ISP. I'm a lot less confident in them than I am in the tech support at my mailhost, but they insisted that they didn't do anything with my connection which could interfere with attempts to collect mail.

Now, I don't really care about getting my e-mail every minute, BUT that 'get messages' option taking up to five minutes to take effect is a real nuisance in these days of two-factor authentication. I'm at a loss to think of anything else - I really can't believe that a version of Thunderbird has got out where all the above flaws are present.

MY first question is whether anybody else is seeing anything like this? Of course, if anybody has any suggestions for a fix to the problem, I'd be grateful to hear that as well. I would have posted the troubleshooting information generated by Thunderbird, but there's 84KB of the stuff, so I'm hesitant to do so.

Thanks for any info.
