Compacted folderg
I had a folder called Documents which I used to store important emails, somehow that folder disappeared and I now have one called Documents-1. I did not make any changes and the only thing I recalled doing was compacting the folders just to get rid of the obnoxious prompt that was constantly appearing offering to compact the folders. The new folder only contains I would say one third of what I had in the previous folder. Did it get erased ? does any one know where I can find such folder ?

The addition of a 1 indicates that Thunderbird lost access to the original file. Do you have an antivirus product that scans in the Thunderbird profile folder that could have blocked the original file being updated?
Does right clicking the folder, selecting properties and then the repair button help out with the missing content?
I use Malwarebytes and Windows defender. I tried tried repairing the folder just like you stated and nothing happened. Still in the same boat.
