Sadly, I am now forced to leave firefox. My passwords are getting "forgotten" more and more each day. Did i get hacked? Few passwords like proton mail I don't actually have anywhere else. Auto-Backup of firefox seems to be of the same day as the original??? So it loses the data then saves it twice? who designed this? I'm angry, not at firefox/mozilla. angry at myself for putting my trust in the first place. Chromium doesn't sync so it leaves me with chrome FFS. Does someone has a magic wand to recover the lost data? login.json is same day as original so not an option.

Chosen solution

Yes. Im using sync, to sync my passwords. Why in the world, the one reason people use sync, causes the loss of data the sync is designed for? I will mark as solved as i moved on. Recovered what I could with bunch of resets. Forfeited what I couldn't. I have a backup of 7ish months ago, but most passwords were reset since. I'm a business owner and keep telling customers when you don't pay well you get worse off of a job, and swallow my own words right here. Free browser and i come with expectations lol. Someone slap me for it please.

Guess Ima have to start paying with my data to google for stability.

Are you using Sync to sync logins (passwords) as that could be a possible cause of such unexpected data loss?

Is this about logins that initially were added on another device?

Note that on desktop you can backup your passwords (logins.json and key4.db) and possibly check if you have a logins-backup.json with lost logins when you notice such a loss. You can check logins.json in the Firefox profile folder to see if there are logins present that only have a deleted="true" key/value pair.

How many devices are/were connected to this Sync account and what kind of devices are this (Desktop/Android/iOS) ?

3 Android, 2 Debian.

If you keep all devices connected (i.e. not disconnect/reconnect devices and make changes while not connected) and make sure that you control updating that requires a restart then you shouldn't suffer such data loss in case passwords are the only item that was affected. Sync can be fragile as this isn't meant to be used as a backup. On desktop you can/should backup your personal data what is not easily possible on Android (I've never tried to restore a mobile backup).
