Duplicate emails since updating password

Hi,

I've used Thunderbird for years and all was good until I decided to change my email password today. I'm using Thunderbird 115.6.0.

I started by updating my password but that led to a problem where it would ask for my password every time I sent an email, even after ticking the box for it to remember the password. I decided to remove the email account and add it again.

The email account is now working but I am receiving emails twice; every new message is duplicated.

If I delete either of the duplicate emails it deletes the other! It doesn't send them to trash, it deletes them both completely so they're gone.

I can't see what's causing this. My SMTP port number is set as 587 which is wrong according to my website settings but if I change it to what my hosts say it should be the account stops work.

The only solution I have seen is to download a duplicate removal plugin called "Remove Duplicate Messages" but doing this generated 570 blank emails from the year 1970 (I often get blank emails from 1970).

I don't understand why it isn't working now when it was before. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I can't find anything about this online.

Chosen solution

I have fixed the problem so here's how I did it for anyone who may see this.

Thunderbird had created an extra Inbox for some reason. I found it by sending myself an email and then expanding all of the folders in the left pane by clicking on the small arrows.

The main Inbox was saying (1) and then another Inbox saying (1) further down. I deleted the second inbox and the problem has gone!

I vaguely remember doing this years ago when I first set it up.

Now I just want Thunderbird for Android to come out :-)
