Hi, I am using Firefox vsn 120 for Linux Mint. I believe that I have the privacy and security set with the default settings.

However, Firefox seems to forget the information stored by websites, so that can't simply login.

Each. And. Every. Time. I have to go through the process of re-introducing myself to the security of the website provider who insists on sending me emails, SMS messages, etc. with codes to confirm who I am.

This applies, every time I use a site that requires a login (bank, BBC, Fidelity, eBay, Facebook....).

Once I have been approved on a site, then my login seems to work for a few days, up to a week and then off we go again with a new set of security codes. My settings do not delete cookies, and firefox is never closed, except if the PC needs a reboot, which is rare.

I would appreciate any help in settings that would allow me to use Firefox normally without having to enter security codes. Cheers, Mark

Maybe set this pref on the about:config page to false to see if that has effect.

Sites may log you out automatically as a security measure, if you haven't visited for a while, your IP address changes, it detects you are using a VPN or there is any kind of suspicious activity. If you are being logged out of all sites simultaneously, it would indicate cookies are being cleared at your end.

Does it still happen in a new profile without signing into Sync? An easy way to test a new profile is to install Developer Edition and see if it happens there or refresh your existing profile.

With respect, there is a difference between being logged out and being completely forgotten. In the former I just log in again to gain access, in the latter (as in my case), the website forgets who I am, and demands 2 factor authentication to 'remember this new device' - the only device I have been using , unchanged. The reason is that the cookie the website leaves, each time I am authenticated, is deleted, requiring complete re-authentication again (and again...). Also, I haven't changed my IP address, use a VPN, and haven't even logged out or rebooted.

If a site regards your activity as suspicious, it may no longer trust your device and require full authentication.

Do you have any evidence of cookies being deleted? You can see the creation date of cookies in the Storage Inspector (Shift+F9), right-click the column headings to show the "Created" column. If there are no older cookies then it is an indication they were recently cleared.

Are you logged out of all sites at the same time?
