In reference to my previous post ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1382198?page=1 ) I have noticed that the "jumping while scrolling" in the Facebook News feed has returned after a couple of months of proper behavior. Ver. 108.0.2 It's not as bad as it was but it seems to be getting worse.

Is the circus back in town?

Am I going to have to move back to Chrome again ?? >:-(

Even after the latest FFx update ( 109.0 ) the scrolling is normal.

The major issue seems to be that you scroll down too fast what can lead to issues in some cases when Facebook loads extra content. If you notice that Facebook loads extra content then best is to wait with scrolling until all content has been reloaded, especially if images are present, because if you scroll down to fast and new content arrives further up on the page then Firefox loses track of the scroll position.

Interesting. I'll look into that.

If I scroll down to where the scroll indicator (on the side) is about half-way down, the view skips one post. If I'm quick and scroll back up to the last one I saw there is no more skipping. I can move down one post at a time to about the mid-point again, to view other posts down the page, without the skipping if I am careful. If, after the 1st skip, I move the scroll indicator down to about 2/3 of the way to the bottom, the page the skipping continues seemingly without end ( at ~1 time a second ). Apparently posts are removed from just below the "What's on your mind" area & new ones are added to the bottom of the page at each skip. The skipping stops when I move the scroll indicator back up to about the halfway point or a little higher. It's manageable right now, but still a PITA. BTW this is Windows 11 FYI

The problem can't be explained away. I scroll in minute steps down the newsfeed page and all seems well until suddenly I find I have skipped past 2 or 3 posts. Worse, sometimes when I cautiously retreat to where I was, I find I am at the top of the page. Posts above that point have disappeared. If I want to see them I have to reload the page and start scrolling down again.

You can try to set layout.css.scroll-anchoring.max-consecutive-adjustments = 0 on the about:config page.

I tried the scroll-anchoring preference (thank you) and restarted. It seems not to help.

I just visited the FB feed for the second time after installing Firefox 108.0.2 on the weekend. (That may be a coincidence.) The problems are much worse.

The feed is in descending chronological order so I have always navigated to some early point in the feed and navigated back to the beginning (which used to be the beginning). It is no longer practicable to scroll upwards and, if that continues, it will no longer be practicable to use Firefox for the FB feed.

I too tried the scroll-anchoring preference. There is no change.

Well, this is interesting. As of this morning the scrolling problems have resolved themselves. Even after a forced reboot after a power outage, everything is scrolling normally in Facebook. Wow.

Yes, scrolling seems to be working now.
