Attachments setting shortcuts on desktop when opened

I am using opensuse 15.3 with Thunderbird 102.2.2

Whenever I open an attachment a shortcut to the attachment is added to the desktop. As i can have dozens of email with attachments each day this is becoming a bit tenuous. This has only started to happen after upgrading to 102.2.2

where is your TEMP directory set? Is Thunderbird set to use it? See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=238789#c35 Yes I know it is mac, but at this issue they are remarkable similar as one would expect from Linux Vs Unix.
