FireFox mail. I have several mail accounts with Yahoo. Accounts stopped working correctly within last several days. Auto updates are on and failures may be related to 2 most recent updates. Accounts in question are working correctly on my mobile phone - only Thunderbird is failing. Get following error when I send message from one Yahoo account to another using FB

"Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Request failed; Mailbox unavailable. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again."

In settings interesting issue, in Edit SMTP_server, if I change User Name: in one account, FB changes User Name: in ALL other accounts that use the same smtp server..... I think this is a bug and renders FB useless.

It may help know how many smtp servers you have defined, as it is unusual for Thunderbird to change all smtp servers that use the same URL. That is, if you have three Yahoo accounts, I assume there are six servers defined - three in, three out. Knowing more about them may help.

First, my Gmail and Office accounts continue to operate correctly.

SMTP servers, I have defined for Yahoo; smtp.mail.yahoo.com; for 3 accounts on Yahoo and 3 imap.mail.yahoo.com servers

With each of 3 accounts I have associated appropriate User Name (email address). Here is the issue, when i assign an email user name to any of the three accounts under "Edit SMTP_server" the "User Name:", that user name automatically updates the other accounts "User Name" --- all Yahoo accounts for the outgoing server now have the same User Name...... That I think is the problem.

I agree. Puzzling. Is the description field unique for each? Just a suggestion, as I have no idea what would cause what you're seeing. However, I have often seen situations where the email id of smtp server was different from account email id with no problems in sending. All I can suggest is to review the accounts to ensure each one is associated with the proper smtp server.

OK, I did uniquely ID each SMTP server and this solved the USER NAME issue. However TB mail had been working fine for one year+ with the existing configuration without uniquely "ID"ing the SMTP server, so something has changed! BTW, the IMAP server does not have the same issue with USER NAME. Each instance of configuration of the SMTP as well as IMAP is unique with the associated email - why then does the SMTP setup require the extra step of uniquely naming the SMTP server when there are multiple accounts from one service such as Yahoo???

I also went the extra step of deleting the 3 Yahoo accounts and re-establishing them. All appears to be working at this time, almost. Now I have another issue with broken message filters, just have to redefine.

The unique name per server is important because the SMTP server is the one used for sending. I'm glad you have it now working.

Just to suggest my solution to this problem in the future.

Email Address--> should be connected to [smtp.mail.yahoo.com and imap.mail.yahoo.com] servers. Email address should be the unique identifier with no need to rename a smtp or imap server.

Currently we have

Email address --> connected to [imap.mail.yahoo.com] server and [NAME - smtp.mail.yahoo.com] server connected to Email address. So every time we see the same smtp server address there is a unique Email address associated with it, the design should be the other way around as in the design I show above.

Thanks for your help.

Your solution just does not scale. SMTP servers are assigned to identities, not accounts. When you select the account in the account settings. The panel of information, including the SMTP server to use is entirely identity related. As there is no limit to the number of identities that can be linked to a single account, there is no value in trying to use a one for one mapping of incoming servers to SMTP servers. That is despite the value some see in the simplicity of not having identities per account.

I need clarification to better understand your discussion terminology points.

If I have aa@Yahoo.com and bb@yahoo.com (accounts) and [smtp.mail.yahoo.com] and [imap.mail.yahoo.com] servers.

What are the "identities", please clarify.

I now understand the robust capabilities of TB.

As a user of TB and not a expert in the technical elegance and capabilities of the software, I would like see the ability to setup multiple email accounts under one service such as Yahoo without the step of knowing that I need to manually define a SMTP server for each account [NAME - smtp.mail.yahoo.com]. I am sure this would increase acceptance of TB and reduce the number of support issues.

This issue should be closed.

Thank you again for your assistance.
