I have twice come across a glitch on the Firefox version of tumblr. The notifications will remain entirely static, regardless of how many items are in my dash or how many people have interacted with my posts. I am sure this is a Firefox issue as logging onto Google Chrome removes this issue entirely. I have temporarily removed cookies and passwords for tumblr, but the issue has not improved.

You could try clearing the cache as well as cookies.

If that doesn't work, you could try forgetting the site. Before doing so, save your username and password elsewhere. Site data will be stored again when you revisit. Right-click the site in History (ctl+shft+h) and select Forget About This Site.
