Please see screenshot, this started appearing lately and I admit I find it visually disturbing. Is there a way to remove it in the config editor? I tried some obvious guesses but nothing came up..

Thanks :)

Agree that is weird.

What OS are you using ? What version of Thunderbird are you using ? Is this a Mail Account or a News Account?

Is it occuring in all folders ? Do you also see this occur in seach results when presented as a list?

I'm using Windows 10 OS Thunderbird version 91.11.0 As I use dark them and userChrome.css, I've just been checking this in Troubleshooting Mode and Light theme.

selected folder and used 'Tab' key to move focus to list. Got a thin blue line border - not a dotted version.

Please can you check Help > Troubleshooting Mode To see if you get something different.

Windows 10, Thunderbird 102.0.1. This started showing only recently, seemingly in a random fashion. I've only seen it in inbox but maybe it's just because I'm not straying from there much.

When I tab I get a thin border like you described.

Mail account.

I don't have any add-ons and using the Light theme..

I found a way to replicate this frame consistently, e.g. in the folder list: I stand on Inbox, then right click on Trash for example. Inbox receives the dotted border (as in shown in the screenshot). Same goes for the message list, stand on a message and right click another.

I am also noticing it appears around new messages sometimes, without any action on my part.

Thanks again for any suggestion to remove this :)

re :I don't have any add-ons and using the Light theme..

Did you test using Thunderbird Safe Mode because it does more than switch off addons? It also disables hardware acceleration, so I was wondering if all is ok in Safe mode then start Thunderbird as normal, go to Preferences and uncheck that option - see below.

  • Menu icon > Preferences > General
  • Scroll to the bottom
  • uncheck 'Use hardware acceleration when available'

Also, see if you need to update graphics driver.

I just tried both - troubleshooting mode and disabling hardware acceleration. Also just upgraded to 102.0.2. The unsightly dotted border is still there. Graphics driver is up to date..

I've updated to 102.0.2

I do not see this in Folder Pane nor Thread Pane, but I do see it in the Address Book when I select a contact both in Vertical nad Horizontal view. I have created a bug report. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1779774
