Cannot install an addon

TB v91.7.0

I download an extension from the Mozilla download site; I have tried 3 different ones so far. I select "Install Addon from file...". The result is ALWAYS "This addon cannot be installed because it appears to be corrupt."

What am I missing?

Have you tried addons from addons.mozilla.org?

The problem is that the addons are not compatible with this version of Thunderbird.

No addon can be installed. Version 91 is broken. Please fix.
