I download a lot of pictures. Until today (after an update) the download notification only showed when I clicked on it. Now it pops up when I download something & covers part of my screen. I have to click somewhere to get rid of it. I don't need to see what is downloading.

Chosen solution

In Firefox 97 and 98+ there have been changes to the download panel.

You can set this pref to false on the about:config page to prevent opening the download panel on each download.

  • browser.download.alwaysOpenPanel = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Well, it worked great, once. Why would you want to have that box open every time you download??? You can click on it if you want to see what you've downloaded. This is a very unwelcome, irritating feature. I have been using firefox for years. This is the first time I've had such an aggravating feature. There should be an option of turning it off. It appears right over the like button I click on when I download a photo. I have to deal with that box every time. Not funny, even a little bit.
