Hi. Starting about 3 weeks ago, I have been limited to sending/forwarding emails to a max of ten recipients at a time. I have contacted my service provider (Shaw) and they had me try using their webmail. Using webmail, I was able to send to more than 10 people (I tested with 16). Based on this webmail test, they say the problem is not at their end and I should contact you folks for a solution. This is the error message I get:

Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: IKSPnEKkZUcbnIKSPnx4bP internal error. AUP#SMTP. Please check the message recipient “********@hotmail.com” and try again.

The email address displayed in the message is "always" the eleventh one in my list. Thanks in advance for any help

I don't know if it matters which settings you use, but sending to multiple contacts on non-secure port 25 might matter, especially if Shaw has changed their security requirements. The secure server is mail.shaw.ca on 587, STARTTLS security, normal password authentication, User Name = part of address before @. The secure POP settings are the same except the server is pop.shaw.ca on 995 with SSL/TLS security.

Check your iPad smtp settings and see which ones they use (probably the secure ones if you added the account as IMAP, the default for mobile devices).

What they are really saying is, is that if it works on their webmail, they don't care if it doesn't work with mail clients. What are your smtp settings, and is the password 'strong'?

smtp settings are . . . . server name ; mail.shaw.ca ; port: 25 ; Connection security: none ; authentication method: no authentication. Not sure if the password is "strong". I've had internet with Shaw pretty much since they started offering it. My password has been the same the whole time. I have tried the settings that Shaw suggests on their help pages, but I get a smpt timed out error message when I use them. I should mention I use a POP account.

Earlier today I tried sending to more than 10 recipeints on my iPad, using Apple's mail app (set up as imap, I think), and it worked just fine. I can't remember for sure, but I think this problem started after a Thunderbird update. Oh, and I have tried uninstalling (32 bit) and reinstalling (64 bit) Thunderbird. No difference

Problem appears to be solved. Changed smtp settings to: server: mail.shaw.ca port: 587 authentication method: normal password connection security: starttls

First email I forwarded with these settings I was asked for my password and it worked. Tried another, with over 20 recipients, and it worked. Fingers crossed it will stay fixed.

Thanks so much for your help sfhowes
