I just installed Thunderbird Mail. I'm testing out my calendar. I'm having trouble creating an event I went through the help and it didn't give me the answer that I wanted. The Event selection is grayed out. How do I get to the event selection?

Thank you everybody for your help. I finally fixed my problem. My problem was in the preferences under Events and Tasks. "I had enabled edit events and tasks in a tab instead of in a dialogue window". Once I disabled that I could edit my calendar.

I am not understanding what you are seeing. The top menu has 'Events and Tasks'. Is that greyed out? If not, is 'New Event' greyed out? I may not have an answer, but want to first understand where you are in this.

Thank you for your reply so fast. I attached three screenshots of my calendar with the spell grayed out events button. I also attached an attachment of the Lightning add-on for the calendar. After reading about the calendar, the support page said that I had to install the lightning add-on for the events to work. I hope this helps explain what my problem is.

Okay, I'm no calendar expert, but the addon is to provide a tab feature. Events work, regardless. I cannot duplicate what you are doing. Your image shows that you have created events, so I'm not sure what you are attempting. What key are you pressing to bring up that menu? And, what are you wanting to do? I had thought you were wanting to create an event, but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Let me know.

The lock icon next to the Personal calendar in the left pane indicates the calendar is read-only, which is why you can't add events. Right-click Personal, Properties, uncheck Read Only.

Double-click any day on the calendar to create a new event.

Interestingly, I had a similar problem with events. When I right-clicked to bring up a smaller window to make an event, I got nothing. After reading this, I went to see how the "Edit events and tasks in a tab instead of in a dialogue window" was set. Much to my chagrin, it was unchecked, so I checked it, and it brought up a full large window. I went back and unchecked it again, and now upon right-clicking a tie and date in the calendar, it's bringing the smaller window up as it did on the old computer.

QUESTION: If it's not checked in the beginning when first downloading T-Bird, shouldn't it naturally do what it implies rather than having to go to preferences, checking and unchecking it to make it work?
