Hi! I recently had the motherboard on my Dell laptop replaced and I'm afraid I've lost all of my bookmarks. I was not able to backup anything before everything went black and I don't think I was signed in at all to Firefox. Dell had to replace the motherboard and although I had my documents backed up on OneDrive, I'm thinking maybe my bookmarks are long gone? Is there any way to restore them at all? Please say yes, please say yes!!! LOL! Thank you!

All data is stored in the computer's hard drive. Replacing the Mother Board should not have caused any problem.

What about the rest of your profile? Settings, bookmarks, history, passwords . . . .

If the computer loses power or crashes, the hard drive could have its data corrupted.

Perform a System File Check to fix corrupted system files

Restore Bookmark Backups

Firefox automatically makes backups of the bookmarks. These are stored in the bookmarkbackups folder.

Open the Bookmarks Manager; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B. Firefox 84+ <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> O.

Once the window is open, at the top of the page, press the button labeled Import and Backup. Select Restore. From the list, pick the file you want and click it.

The backups are stored in a jsonlz4 file named something like this; bookmarks-2016-06-29_1424_enD1GTH ya0JmicnYWg4V4g==.jsonlz4

In this example; 2016-06-29 = date created, 1424 = number of entries.

Thank you for the information! Unfortunately, when I received the computer back from Dell (after they fixed it), Firefox was no longer on my laptop. There were no backups or any files (I checked before downloading it again). I was a bit confused on why the bookmarks, etc weren't there but I assumed they somehow deleted them all?? I'm no expert so I have no clue what happened. When I try to restore them per the instructions given here, there isn't anything there to restore. And when I went onto the hard drive to look at any files there, it just showed files from when I downloaded Firefox today.

Contact the Dell tech. Ask if they removed anything from the hard drive. If you can't find the data, you may have to start over.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there? Also, open the profile folder in your file explorer.
