I changed my account password last week and it worked properly for several days. Today, however, I had to use my previous password. When I went to the Change Password dialog, however the new password is showing up as "current".

Chosen solution

That is not the dialog to change the Primary Password, but looks like a password change dialog for the Firefox account website like for the Firefox Account used by Sync Sync or for this forum. Both are different passwords, the Primary Password is used to encrypt and lock the passwords stored in the Lockwise Password Manager.

The password for the Firefox account can be changed here:

If you can't change/edit the login data, what you could do is; remove all login data for that website. Then try again.

Thanks, Fred. Sorry, I should have been clearer. The issue is around my firefox password rather than the password for a particular web site.

Are you talking about the Primary(Master) Password? Select to change it. But as the new password, just press <Enter> without entering anything. If this works, you can change the Primary later.

Yes, the primary/master password. The dialog (attached) does not allow a null new password. I've also tried setting the new password to the current password but get "Your new password must be different."

So to summarize:

  • when loading Firefox or looking up passwords I have to enter the previous primary password, and it seems to have "forgotten" the new primary password but
  • when changing the primary password it "remembers" the new primary password.
  • the new primary password worked for several days before encountering this issue.

Thanks, now the behavior is making sense! :) I thought my account password _was_ my primary password. As a suggestion, might help to have a link or cross-reference from the account password change and/or the Passwords page to the change primary password in Settings.
