hello, Im using TB for almost 10 years now and am mostly happy with it , sometimes I had issues but nothing like the one Im having these days, it keeps giving error like this and no matter what i tried didn't work out ( I don't have wide knowledge of internet language but most guides were clear about what to do how to do so I did check all those what was possible ) error is this : Alert from account xx @xxx.com (my company's server name from google) please log in via your web browser;https:support.google.com/mail/accounts/answer/78754 (failure) I have read all possible troubleshooting pages-forums etc but nothing described there helped to solved (using MAC OSX 11.10.6 and not planning to upgrade due to some capacity issues thunderbird new version 91.1.2 doesn't work with my software so I am using 78.14.0 without problem ....

I did all steps that are described in those forums and help topics but didn't solve it . -enabled less secure apps in google -cleared the captcha -checked if Thunderbird is authorised app in my google settings - which i added into third party app section - -changed my gmail password to try again

above mention error shows and can't login to my thunderbird inbox which made my workflow upside down....

pls advise what else to do.. thank you ! Srp

Chosen solution

For the incoming, use imap.gmail.com on 993, SSL/TLS, OAuth2 authentication, User Name = email address.

For the outgoing use smtp.gmail.com on 465, SSL/TLS, or 587, STARTTLS, OAuth2 authentication, User Name = email address.

Remove all passwords from Saved Passwords in Preferences/Privacy & Security, restart TB, enter the account password in the OAuth window.

Check that you've made these settings:

authentication method for incoming and outgoing is OAuth2

cookies are accepted in TB Preferences/Privacy & Security

passwords are removed from Saved Passwords in Privacy & Security

VPN is disabled, if there is one

Confirm your password is working by logging into webmail, then restart TB, enter the confirmed password in the OAuth window when prompted.

hi @ sfhowes thank you for your help and info , yes I have tried those and it only provided the TB not to ask enter your password screen ( also asked google password for authentication which run ok ) but now still its not loading any new messages since problem started on 24th Sept.. new errors are ; connection to server imap.gmail.com timed out.. and when trying to send it doesnt recognize outgoing server settings and keep asking to check settings Im giving up and planning take mac to a service to check software update issues i postponed and then reload the last version of TB to see if it will work thanks for your advises anyway.

hi again I tried all suggestions and still i can't login to TB as i used to a week ago ,plus i lost all my earlier email settings on it etc after updating it

" connection to server timed out " error is constantly there after 20-30 seconds of commands of ge new emails .. or read emails.

- config.s are done as attached -in order to try latest version of TBird app mac osx was upgraded to 10.12.3 to be compatible with it TB is now 91.1.2 version and previous apps of Tbird were all cleared from mac.. (used appcleaner ) -google server enabled needed settings - accepted third party app thunderbird is listed there . passwords cleared , captcha cleared.

  • after first reinstall tbird and when tried to send Test email it did ask for authorisation from google server and its given..

but now tbird screen is all empty without all my prev. mails /folders etc.. and they can't be downloaded due to ongoing error after set up new updates I sent 3 test emails from tbird to my own email adress it sent and I got it to server but it doesn't show anywhere on the tbird app window .. and also all tbird app is empty start window even after 4 test emails were sent from there .. no trace at all ( also didn't warn email sent or else .. it was saying its sending... )

    • email server works fine

using tb mailbox for over 10 years was habit to me and i don't wish to change , and i def. need an emailbox set up .

    • attaching screenshots of settings and how tbird screen is now after updated and set up my email and sent 4 trial emails to my own email adress...

if anyone has solution suggestions pls do help ( and pls try to describe as clear as possible ) thank you in advance .
