Is that the only menu that is affected ? Do other sub menus like the Help menu work ?

Yes, it seems to be the only menu. Yes, the other menus work. Yes, I closed Firefox and rebooted my computer. I'm using an iMac.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

• switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
• do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

How are you triggering that dialog? The Proton redesign combined the Web Developer menu items with other items under "More Tools" so I'm not sure how you got that panel.

Ah, I see it now. Thanks! I've always gone to the icon at the upper right of my browser window (see screenshot with the red arrow).

Now that I've found the inspector again, how can I increase the font size of the characters within that panel? They are much too small for my eyes. (see other screenshot)

Cor-el, none of the troubleshooting methods you suggested made the Web Developer tools show up.

When the cursor is in the dev tools, you can use zoom as you would on a web page, it is stored separately from the zoom level for the site content.

Does your Firefox have this:

menu button > More Tools > Web Developer Tools

Many of the specifics are not on the new menu.

Another user posted the same empty menu -- but with a screenshot of the tabs bar for more context. Perhaps the situation in that thread also applies to you?

The Proton redesign in Firefox 89 changed how commands were grouped on the menu -- now they are here:

• Menu button ≡ > More Tools > Web Developer Tools (opens the panel to last used tool)
• (menu bar) Tools > Browser Tools > Web Developer Tools (opens the panel to last used tool)

Unfortunately, setting browser.proton.enabled to false causes the More Tools menu items to get completely lost -- they do not migrate back to their earlier locations under the old menu headings. That might be a bug, but the "fix" is going to be removing browser.proton.enabled in Firefox 91.

For now, your options are:

• Revert the preference to true and resolve concerns about the tab bar design in a different way
• Use the keyboard shortcuts: https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Tools/Keyboard_shortcuts
