I recently reinstalled Firefox after doing a full Windows reinstall on my PC. Since then, my bookmarks are not displaying on the bookmarks toolbar. I've "refreshed" Firefox from the control panel, rebooted my PC, and reinstalled Firefox. I've also moved the bookmarks from the toolbar folder in the bookmark manager and then put them back. Any suggestions?

Hmm, even a Refresh didn't fix it?

Could you double-check whether the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" control -- which is needed to show bookmarks on the toolbar -- somehow moved or fell off the bar? You can use the Customize feature to investigate. More info in this article, and I've attached a reference screenshot.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

You can check for issues with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created.

You may have to restore an older backup in the bookmarkbackups folder via the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
