From Victoria, BC, Canada: my email server, Telus, forced me to a "mandatory upgrade" which preserves my old address, but makes me to go through Google. During the difficult "transition", I was told that the new system would not support Thunderbird. What is going to happen to my extensive record (correspondence, saved articles, address books etc)? Will I still be able to access this history or will it all have to be transferred to f.ex. the cloud - I have a Dropbox account.???? Desperately

hoping for advice!

Is your account set up as POP or IMAP? Your existing mail should be visible after the upgrade, but if it isn't, it's probably still there and simply needs to be made visible. I don't see that saving to Dropbox will be of any value.

Changing from the Telus servers to the Gmail servers should be straightforward and preserve your current setup. Open Tools/Account Settings, change the incoming server to imap.gmail.com on 993 (if the account is currently IMAP) or pop.gmail.com on 995 (if the account is currently POP), SSL/TLS, OAuth2 authentication, User Name = your Telus address. At the bottom left of Account Settings, Outgoing Server (SMTP), change the server to smtp.gmail.com on 465, SSL/TLS, or 587 STARTTLS, OAuth2 authentication, User Name = your Telus address.

Remove the passwords from Options/Privacy & Security and check that cookies are accepted in the same section under Web Content. Then, restart TB and enter your account password in the OAuth window.

sfhowes: Thank you for your quick response! I managed to do the "upgrade" after some problems. My question is about whether I will be able to continue accessing my past history on Thunderbird, or whether I have to save the whole lot to Dropbox - a horrible job!

Thanks once again! I will have to ask the person who set up Thunderbird.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU... Telus was unable to assist me, and after way too much time searching online I found your post. 10 minutes later I had four accounts repaired and working again. Did I remember to say THANK YOU!
