In which folder or file are passwords located?

My setup - 78.6.1 (64-bit), PCLinuxOS fully updated.

i have to keep reentering the Google and Yahoo passwords. It appears as if the "file" or whatever is disappearing.

Stay safe!

Chosen solution

All i had to do was to check the setting for cookies: Accept Third Party cookies and Keep Until They Expire.

That seems to have done the trick. Thank you again for your swiift replies. We've been using TB since it came out and have grown somewhat fond of it.

Please stay safe and have a great Saturday!  :)

At the password prompt, there's a checkbox to tell Thunderbird to remember the password.

If the checkbox is missing:

If the authentication on the gmail and Yahoo accounts is OAuth2 (recommended), check that cookies are allowed in Edit/Preferences/Privacy & Security.

i checked your suggestions. Before anything else... Thank you for responding so quickly! Wow!

This is pretty strange... i found what i believe is the file which holds the passwords: logins.json Of course most of the info is encrypted but there is enough to indicate how many passwords have been created and the date and time on the file indicate when it was last updated. i've also been making backups of the file. Now when i go to Edit/Preferences/Privacy and Security and Passwords, i see the window which has the passwords. The strange thing is that it now has 2 duplicates of the gmail and yahoo accounts because it has asked me twice to input the passwords.

As you might suspect i don't know what is going on.

Have a great evening and again, thanks for helping. Also, please stay safe!  :)

If you see two passwords for each account, one is for the incoming and the other for the outgoing, e.g. imap:// and smtp://. Change the authentication method in Account Settings to OAuth2 for the incoming and outgoing, for gmail and Yahoo, check that cookies are allowed in Privacy & Security, remove the passwords from Saved Passwords, then restart TB and enter the password when prompted in the OAuth browser window (separate for gmail and Yahoo). An oauth:// token for each account will be stored in Saved Passwords.
