Volume icon suddenly disappeared from Toolbar

Problem of the day, after really not doing anything else but restarting the iMac:

the volume icon vanished and I could not figure out why and how to restore it.

I'd appreciate advice for having it back as it is really impacting my used of websites that imply sound.

Chosen solution

I figured it out.

I had to go to System Preferences, Sound, Output and check "Show volume in menu bar".

I have no idea why it disappeared.... but now it is back.

One problem less....
