Hello, I use Thunderbird (since years) version 78.5.0 under Windows 10. This morning all was ok, but this afternoon it refuses to collect my mail. I searched for the problem in help for Thunderbird and found a solution : in the pop email server setup I changed the security of the connection to None (it was SSL/TLS). And it works. My question is : do I now have a security problem ? Thanks.

According to their forums, you should temporarily disable SSL until they solve the problem per https://support.eset.com/en/kb3126-disable-ssl-filtering-in-eset-windows-products?ref=esf - the problem is being reported by dozens of users https://forum.eset.com/topic/26517-problems-with-thunderbird-and-imaps/ https://forum.eset.com/discover/

Since this morning I too have this problem when no changes have been made to my system. Actually this morning the first run of Thunderbird retrieved all mail normally. I'm running TB 78.5.0 64-bits.

For me changing the setting of the security level to NONE didn't work. I have no add-ons in use. Even running in SAFE-Mode doesn't make any difference.

It is not just the Gmail accounts that are no longer retrieved, but also the account from my hosting provider. The common factor appears to be that all accounts no longer retrieved are POP-acocunts.

Thunderbird continuously shows it is connected to pop.googlemail.com but after a while it reports a timeout. Online access to Gmail is just fine and also my SPAM-filter application can access all the accounts just fine.

Thank you for your heads-up on ESET, as that is indeed also my Protection Software. --- Update: Their instruction resolved the issue for me:

  • Please carry on as follows:
  • - reboot the machine
  • - disable SSL filtering and click OK
  • - re-enable SSL filter and click OK
  • - launch Thunderbird.

Hello, I requested help from Eset and their reply worked fine for me. Below their solution (translated from French, so maybe some mistakes) :

- Open the principal window in Eset. - Press F5 to enter in advanced setup mode. - Click on Web and Email and develope Protocol filtering. - You'll see Excluded application and Excluded IP addresses. Click on modify. - Click on Add. - Select the application (or IP) you want. Here the Thunderbird exe. Click Ok.

That's all.

I have the same problem with TB 78.6.1 1. (jvw64) I dont use ESET 2. (alwin2) After rebooting the PC and starting TB the message on the bottom is permanently

   ...@... connected with secureimap.t-online.de
The consequence is for an adition mail the information ....timeout....

Has somebody an idea to solve the problem? I also cannot use my other accounts (GMX), because they all are going over the t-online.de adress. Klaus22763

Helo, I think I've found one reason: If I have deinstalled 2 anti-hack-programs (AVAST-antitrack and HACKCHECK) and the "AVG-Antivirus free", the problem has been disappeared. Klaus
