Cant Send E mail in TB only. Same E mail account works perfect in web mail based yahoo. Can receive ok in TB, just cant send. iphone send & receive is all problem free. No settings chg. since 2016, using win7 professional, google. Account. is thru att.net. Upgraded with the security key as suggested in prev. TB messages. Worked fine until today. Disabled Norton & win protection. No help, all settings are the same for years: try to send mail, dialog box pops up: Login to server outbound.att.net with username xxx@att.net failed. 3 choice boxes: 'retry'/'enter new password'/'cancel.' Created a new PW when I acquired the new security key code from att. Settings: outbound.att.net (default) /port 465/SSL-TLS/Normal PW. IMAP MAIL SERVER: imap.mail.att.net /port 993 Have entered correct PW in dialog box many times with the same result. Have no idea what is wrong in sending mail only.

Chosen solution

For IMAP accounts, AT&T recommends smtp.mail.att.net on 465, SSL/TLS, authentication = normal password, User Name = email address. outbound.att.net is for POP accounts. That might make a difference.

Remove the passwords from Options/Privacy & Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords, restart TB, enter the secure key when prompted.

Have done all suggestions.....Sending mail dialog box now appears: Login to server outbound.att.net with username XXXX@att.net failed. Incoming mail arrives as normal....changing to smtp.mail.att.net did not help. Returned to prev. setting outbound.att.net no help.

I have no idea what has changed. I entered the security key PW and test mail went out as normal. I hope this is the end of these problems I have had since I was req. to come up with security key 16 digit PW. TY.

I'm not following how you request a security key from AT&T. I never needed one before but that may be the problem since I combined my wireless and email accounts.

Instructions for creating a secure mail key:

Remove the old password as explained in my first reply, enter the key when TB restarts.
