Hi ToSt, bookmarks are stored together with history in a database file named places.sqlite in your currently active Firefox profile folder. To find that folder:

To back up ONLY bookmarks, you could use one of these methods:

Either way, site icons aren't included. When you restore, those will be missing, and will be stored again as you visit the sites.
