Can't reinstall Thunderbird 78

more options

I found that my Thunderbird account had been upgraded to 78 without my knowledge when I stopped being able to get email. Since then my life has been a nightmare, trying everything I can think of to get back connected. I eventually decided to try uninstalling and then reinstalling Thunderbird 78. I backed up everything and then uninstalled. Since then, every time I try to install Thunderbird 78 it tells me that the previous uninstall in incomplete and I need to reboot. So I reboot and the same thing happens over and over again. I've tried to manually delete the Thunderbird data file and as far as I can see there is nothing left to delete. But Thunderbird keeps stopping me from reinstalling, saying my previous uninstall needs a reboot, which then doesn't work.

I have now installed Mailbird, which works fine, but I'd really like to have my Thunderbird back. Any suggestions?

Chosen solution

1. backup your profile (and never delete it) https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile 2. reboot, then visit C:\Program Files (x86) and delete the thunderbird program directory found there 3. reinstall thunderbird
