The last 4 days have been the most frustrating of my life. Even though I have automatic updates turned off, Thunderbird automatically updated my version 68.10 to version 78. Version 78 will not recognize my incoming and outgoing server information. I called my isp and we both worked for an hour trying to get Version 78 to accept the configuration which was absolutely correct and worked fine in version 68.10. So I had to uninstall Version 78 and install Version 68 and run update to 68.10. Had to install all my email addresses again and lost all my stored email folders. That was bad enough, but, Thunderbird keeps installing Version 78 even though, as I said, my settings are set to not automatically install updates. Then I have to go through the whole process again. I've run out of answers. If Version 78 keeps updating automatically, I'll have to go to another provider which I hate to do as I was always happy with Thunderbird till now. However, when version 78 installs, I can no longer receive or send email because it will not recognize my server information which is absolutely correct.

Chosen solution

Something else is forcing v78 onto your PC. A third-party software updater program is definitely responsible. Some antivirus programs have software updater modules that scan your PC for installed programs and check if updates/upgrades are available, then they apply them automatically unless you configure them not to. It's time you review what is installed and running on your PC and take control of it.

,I had to turn off updates for all apps to get this to stop updating. I shouldn't have to do this. According to your release notes for version 78, it is supposedly only available as a download not as an upgrade. After reading some of the other posts, I'm not the only one having problems with version 78!!!

Thunderbird and Mozilla have NO control over what third-party updater programs are installing on your system. I have v68 and it says it's up-to-date. Others with the same problem have something in common; you're all relying on third-party updater programs, which don't respect Mozilla or Thunderbird's delivery schedule, but it's easier to blame Mozilla, isn't it?

I am still experiencing problems with the New version 78.0. It does not recognize configuration of servers for sending and receiving emails. Have worked with provider and neither one of us can understand why this is happening. Configuration entered either automatic or manual is correct. I uninstalled 78.0 and went back to the previous version 68.11 and it works fine. I turned off automatic updates both in Thunderbird and apps. But somehow 78.0 was installed again. I've lost my address book and folders 3 times. Setting up the address book again was easy as I had a backup. Thought I had a backup of folders too by following backup of Thunderbird profile, but when I reinstalled 68.11, the folders were not there. HELP!!
