Lightning does not connect to apple iCal in iCloud

I have repeatedly tried to configure Lightning to connect to my iCloud calendar explicitly following the instructions at the link below and it appears to create the local calendar but is grayed out. If I double click on it, it opens a window to allow me to switch it to on, but nothing happens when I click OK. I have this working on one computer running Arch Linux ARM but does not appear to work on Ubuntu 20.02 ARM.

Is there a way to clear out old attempts to connect to the apple calendar because it appears to retain the apple generated password when I try unsubscribing to the local calendar and adding a new calendar? I tried removing Lightning and adding it back but the same issue happens. Not sure if I can start over from the beginning to make this work.

You can remove saved credentials/passwords by accessing the password vault. Go to Options > Security > Passwords > Saved Passwords.

TbSync supports iCloud.

Thank you Stans and sfhowes for your suggestions. I got TbSpec to work on my partner's Ubuntu 19.04 and it initially worked on my ALARM system. But after restarting Thunderbird, it gets hung in a loop apparently doing calendar operations as you can see in the attached CPU utilization graphic and Thunderbird locks up for close to a minute, does one operation, and gets hung in the loop until another minute passes. I can restart Thunderbird in safe mode allowing me to use email.

I'm not sure if the "size" of my calendar makes any difference but it starts in 1992. That alone took a few hours to digest during synchronization and as I said worked great until I restarted Thunderbird.
